I don't know if you are Megaman fans or if you come across this, but you have to see this! Capcom made a new release of Megaman (9). Against the common sense to move further and further with franchises and AAA, nextgen and all those picky buzzwords, they made it like Megaman 1 and 2 on the NES (or: "Famicon" in Japan).
This means: they took all restrictions, boundaries and problems you had time back then (limited enemies, flickering of sprites in certain situations, limited colors, 4bit music.. etc.) as artistic element, an approach to go back to the roots, make an new "original" Megaman release and satisfy at the same time the fans. You can download the game XBOX Live Arcade and also for Wii I think...
I find it very interesting. Capcom as afaik the first big company that does not simply "try" to reensemble old things in a new fashion (like Nintendo did in Zelda: Twillight Princess.. which is more a trip through all the old locations of the Zelda universe, especially OOT or enumerous other games). They truely stayed retro.
Dunno why, but this is very satisfying. A bright spot in that greasy landscape of nowadays games (and game development!!).
What do you think?

Yeah - it was presented on the E3... As Megaman fan I like it and why not producing some of those "fun titles" (while I don't think it would be a good idea to start pumping out dozens of retro titles now). So I'm quite happy with it although I'd have preferred if they would have kept that NES style but made it more modern by not having just like 4 frames for the running animation but something totally smooth and things like that - at least as an option to turn on off as that wouldn't be that much work in comparison as they've done things like an emulation for that flickering effect and so on too...
Well as final note I think Megaman 9 is wrong - it should have been Megaman 10...

no, it IS megaman 9 Megaman 1-6 on NES; 7 on SNES, 8 on PSX, megaman and bass on SNES is basically a direct sequel to 8, like final fantasy X2 is to final fantasy X, and the pwoer battle games, while having a story, are games that summon up the overall story and interweave them, so mega man 9 is aboslutely correct XD
Well in my opinion Megaman & Bass qualifies as Megaman 9 - I don't know why they didn't call it that way in the first place (but there are lots of questions you mustn't ask about the Megaman series (especially the X one) anyway). It's as valid as X6 being the next title after X5 just as Half-Life 2 is to Half-Life 1 or Warcraft III is to Warcraft II...
Well I'll call it Megaman 9 now as they say but it imo is not correct just like for the numbers of the earlier Final Fantasy titles (at least in non-japanese countries)...
