We can't do game demos ourselves. It's not only a question of manpower. I'm just not good with level design and if you had to look at my textures and models, you'd run away. We're ordering demos from external teams, such as the carlevel or the venice and warehouse demos. However an overall demo that display every feature of the engine would greatly exceed our financial budget. I can understand that myself, I'm a coder too, I don't know if you saw my un-skinned barrel As for the demo, why not get someone else to do the models and any normal maps/shaders and all other artwork. Check out the demo that I posted a link to and you'll see what I mean, they only used a few models themselves, they just re-used them in each demo, they even used some untextured ones. I'd volunteer to help with a demo, but I have game work to do. I'd just like to see what could really be pulled off with 3DGS, and small demos don't really do that. I think it would also help us to learn more, and it would give you code to give as examples for how to do it right, and it would help with bug fixing I think. Another personal opinion: Jcl, I can understand that you had to take on the coding from a cantonese worker(I read the post), but I really think that improving what is already in the engine is more important that adding new things. There are some issues and slow things that need to be tweaked. I don't mean this to be a jerk, and don't take it the wrong way, but I don't think the engine utilizes the 3D card and CPU to their full potential, because I have had a few tests that turn out to be the exact same framerate on a low level system and on a better system, and the better system has a dual core cpu and a really good video card while the low end had just a step up from what it takes to run the engine.

Quoting Manslayer101 ...this would be an awesome bug fixing area, which Conitec really needs. So far there are only people providing some fixes for some bugs, but if Conitec experienced most of them firsthand, they could fix them as soon as they ran across them. Really, it would throw production ahead, plus it would help show some of the things that alot of users complain about, and prove them to be real or not. Aye. It can not be said better here.

How about a competition/sponsership from conitec then? I mean, some of us are working on what we believe to be a shippable product that would prove core tech. But we are working in A6 and recently found that we will have to upgrade to protect our product, (encrypted packets), and an insentive from conitec could really help. Either way conitec needs a solid feature demo(s), who makes it is not important. But what better way than the GameStudio community and Conitec comming together to achieve a mutual goal. Afterall a good demo will make the industry pay more attention to games made with this technology and that in turn benefits us all. Right?

The reason I suggest Conitec is because they programmed the engine, they should know more about it and how to implement more features. It's not a bad idea to have a contest though . I agree that it does need a solid demo, I just want to know how Conitec would program the game, as I mentioned, it would be great to have users donating models and textures, or even being paid for them, but I think that Conitec should make the coding. I mean, doing code for a fps is a small affair, AI could take a bit of time, but it wouldn't have to be great. I just think that people deserve to see how much the engine can pull off on it's own. It makes it more fair to understand in the long run how they could do some things. I'm pretty sure that Conitec knows their game engine well enough, but most of the features, although tested before releasing, have not been tried to work in a true game. It comes down to how well it goes in the end, and I believe that it would be a great learning experience for us all. I think that A7 could pull off better than A6, but I want to see what the basis of A7 could pull off. No SDK, No Plugins, just A7 itself.

I mean, doing code for a fps is a small affair Yeah if you talk about movements only, but we want pretty environments, no? That's what it's all about. And detailing take alot of time. Not only because it's alot of programming, but also because there's an artistic aspect to take in account. Programmers are usually no artists so you'd need good coöperation between the two, which is hard to achieve already. The people that do know how to make it pretty charge alot of money as well.
