what's holding me from getting one is the missing keyboard and the fact that everyone would need a hacked psp who wanted to play my games, which i seriously don't like. as long as my code has no chance to run on a retail psp, it's not worth the effort.
Well... technically you could get a developer's kit for the PSP, but you'd have to make a game that impresses Sony enough for them to even give you a try on their platform.
If you're serious about it, I'd make a game that sort of would run on a PSP-like platform first. Look into the hardware specs, build a game more or less around that.. go from there.
This probably doesn't sound like anything new to you, so don't take it as an offense or insult... but if you'd want people with normal legal firmware to run your games... the homebrew-capable hacked firmware is not going to be the way to do it,

It would not surprise me if the PSP 2 will get a touchscreen that will get rid of this issue altogether..
Edit: By the way, there seems to be a keyboard addon coming out in Japan soon.
