Well... technically you could get a developer's kit for the PSP, but you'd have to make a game that impresses Sony enough for them to even give you a try on their platform.

If you're serious about it, I'd make a game that sort of would run on a PSP-like platform first. Look into the hardware specs, build a game more or less around that.. go from there.

This probably doesn't sound like anything new to you, so don't take it as an offense or insult... but if you'd want people with normal legal firmware to run your games... the homebrew-capable hacked firmware is not going to be the way to do it,

It would not surprise me if the PSP 2 will get a touchscreen that will get rid of this issue altogether..

Edit: By the way, there seems to be a keyboard addon coming out in Japan soon.

making 3D games is easier, someone ported irrlicht to PSP, and you have full function over that.
I have had my own 3D mesh running on that previously (a small silent hill clone town).

LTE engine it was called: http://www.ltestudios.com/

I'll show a screenshot soon of what i had running, gotta find my datacable :P

EDIT: here's the 3D mesh proof:

long story short: just get one, i have 3 (yes, dont ask) they are 100% worth every penny!!

EDIT: here's the 3 PSP's proof:

regards,
Dennis

Problems is that, like for the wii, the precise hardware specs and behaviour is not known. Even for the NDS all the emulators out there are still not emulating exactly the same as the real NDS.

It has built-in microphone now also, probably for Skype.

What interests me the most about it though, is that the screen has been improved a lot as the reflection of sunlight is no longer an issue.

It's why I'm considering buying this latest version. With the first PSP it's incredibly annoying at times when there's too much sun...

Cheers

Unfortunately yes, it is. However, ALL homebrew requires FW upgrade/downgrade (whatever you feel like calling it).
PSP LUA -> custom FW
LTE -> custom FW
emulators (scummVM,snes,nes,n64,gba,psone etc etc) -> custom FW

but dont worry, custom FW doesnt mean you have to play custom games wink you can still play them. me for instance doesnt download games, however bacause im using the fat PSP, i do dump all the originals i have to my memory stick, because that loads much much much faster then UMD

it's got a lot of upsides to running custom firmware, but i think i proved my point...

just get one! trust me, you wont be disappointed!! im sure as hell aint with my 3 psp's laugh

Dennis

Just a question here though, you need higher firmware versions to be able to play the latest games. Does dumping them to a memory stick also work with the very latest games?

I haven't tried to run homebrew in a very long time, but I always assumed they had it fixed by now.. meaning no official games on homebrew versions.
