I wonder if the Medal of Honor would have been the right award though.
Sure, he made the ultimate sacrifice, but did he really accomplish something vital except dying so others could live?
It's not easy to judge his actions and whatever medal awarded is not going to bring the guy back, but even though I definitely think it was a heroic action to sacrifice himself for the sake of others... I think the Medal of Honor would have given him too much credit.
