Hi,

When I start snd_play() I can't set the balance. It always plays in stereo. What gives?

snd_play(sndFile, 100, -100);

this makes it play in stereo as well as any other setting. Help? smile

Use mono sounds only. Stereo sounds are not supported by snd_play, only by media_play.

If you have generally problems with sounds on your PC, check your sound card settings. Some sound drivers require sound hardware acceleration to be switched off, otherwise balance doesn't work.

I was using mono sounds. I thought that didn't work because they were mono. So I played stereo sounds. Doesn't work either. I tried several sound files, all of different quality.

I had a similar issue, the only way to get it to work is by turning hardware acceleration for sound to off...

Quite a few of us have been asking for the sound engine to be upated for ages..

No answer as to when just that they will sometime in the future..

Is there a way to turn off hardware acceleration for the engine? According to some forums at Creative, Vista turns off sound acceleration by default. So that's not it then.

Any other solutions? I would really like some form of "3D sound" in my game.

No, the engine has no influence on the hardware acceleration setting or the way sounds are played. DirectX is used for playing sounds.

I pretty sure though that through using a plugin you could turn hardware acceleration off on startup...

I fixed the 3D sound issue with ent_playsound(), this does seem to work with any sound really.
