I changed the model in MED and re-rigged it with a very lowpoly model from one of Rincewind's contributions. Could be worth a look or two. Thats a great animation(I just downloaded it and watched in MED) I think people would benefit and appreciate hugely from a tutorial about this process if you get the time. The reason is that you are able to use .bvh's which is a common file format. Some of my problems is that I can only use motek's format. There are a larger variety of .bvh's available. I don't think that video capture for animations is trivial Definitely agree. It is worth good money to pay someone who has the technical knowledge to deal with file formats, rigging and some scripting needed to get them working. In the 'real' world of game development there are specific people hired for this. Usually they are called technical directors or TD's for short and it is a highly needed position.

Lastly I would recommend that whatever you choose, you make sure to either use the same team for your modeling/texturing/animation needs or make sure that they are working very closely together. I have done work with people on this forum who were paid as modelers because they were supposedly better than me, but when I had to animate their models they were not even closely set-up for animation. I had gross deformations on the arms and legs, the faces werent set up for eye blinking or mouth opening and other issues which meant that I had to fix the model and add vertices to make it work which I ended up charging the client for. So be smart with your choices. Or just do it yourself like I do. wink eventually you will get good at it. I know the feeling, although not a lot of people expect talking or blinking animations in there games, and I'm thinking that, that may have been the reason they didnt put the facial animation stuff in there. The general knowledge is that if you are going to outsource for modeling, the modeler needs to have at least some knowledge animating. A good organic modeler should be able to make a humanoid that can just have a rig set to bone heat and still watch the mesh deform decent. Then the animator can tweak weights to make it beautiful.

No thats not it, and did you happen to notice that I talked about deformations in the arms and legs? Any good modeler knows how to set up a humanoid model to be animated for at least a walk cycle. that can just have a rig set to bone heat I dont know if your still replying to me or why, but I dont know what bone heat is.

no, i understand about the deformations in the arms and legs, that is poor, im just trying to explain what might have been the issues with the face.
as far as the bone heat, i was just saying a general statment, in some modeling programs you can automatically have bones ... autoweight? I guess thats what you could call it, just basically automatically assign to a bone based on its distance. in blender its called setting them to bone heat.

Thank you for the compliment, I thought about writing a tut, but I have made a more complete explanation somewhere in the forums, and, the backdraw of this procedure is that you can't use weights. This doesn't matter in these quite simple walk animations with such a simple model. Someone could try to go the way bvhacker - fragmotion - blender - MED, to use the rigging in blender which allows vertex weights, but I have no time at the moment to test this.
