How exactly would you be making a web site without a computer that helps you do it for you? I suppose you could draw it out, but no one would ever see it. j/k

I understand what you mean. There is an elegance to coding a good webpage, but is it really that much more efficient? I’m looking at time here. Something I dearly need more of. I have used NVU which is good for slapping something together, but I need a little more control.

What do you guys think if I learn some css so I can get more functionality out of NVU? Or, should I just jump in both feet in to the world of html? Are there any good reference sites or script editors that has all the code laid out so I can get moving fast?

I've seen plenty of webpages created with some sort of tool, leaving local pathes or other itneresting information inside comments, or producing pure HTML mess.

Concerning clean source code, there are not many tools you can trust.

I've switched to my own tempalte system, which means that I'm coding dynamic content with PHP, but all other stuff like the design is done by simple HTML files which even allow short injections for things like links and images.

I'll never go back to WYSIWYG again.
I prefer some tool like Phase 5.3, which is basically a text editor with additional shortcuts which produce HMTL source code. By hitting a single button, it loads the page into an integrated browser window. It also allows to configure usage of your own webserver in case you're working with PHP and/or MySQL.

That's not really WYSIWYG but it's at least YGWYRW (you get what you really want)

I agree with Micheal, i hate using tools that make the code for you. They usually make it messy, non-w3 compliant and just plain horrible. I prefer doing it by hand.
But i do use dreamweaver for its FTP as it allows me to edit files and save them directly to my server.
If i were you i would go and learn HTML on Tizag.com or W3Schools.com, then create a site like that. Yes it may take some time but once its done you will be able to make a site and customise it a lot, also tell people that you made it not some program, and you gain a new skill from it.

What about notepad++, editplus, or any ftp client?

notepad++ isn't a FTP client, it is just a text editor with some nice features.

Thanks for the sites Blade28081991. I've decided to dig into HTML. I've already gotton started with CSS so I can use style sheets to complement Kompozer (updated NVU). I like the program because I am more visual being more artist than coder, so my next site will probably be a hybrid, some of my code, some of the program's, which will help me learn anyways. Then my next site will be completely coded by hand.

Thanks everyone for all the good info, and please if anyone else has any ideas keep them coming!

The user has the choice to do different, a tool usually not smile

Code:
	<!--###DOCUMENT###-->
	<div id="icenter">
		<div id="icontent">
			###CONTENT###
		</div>
		<div id="imenu">
			###MENU###
		</div>
	</div>
	<!--###DOCUMENT###-->
if you use a CMS (which most of the time makes sense) then you won't have to write a lot more html than this (plus some CSS) anyway. every nice text editor will do.
