You will not find a single, decent, game engine, at any price, that will spit out a good game without a little bit of work on your part.
All Gamestudio takes is about a month or two to get use to it and then you can go anywhere if you stay motivated. The templates are easy to put together for a basic shoot-em up, lite-c syntax is simple to learn and understand (compared to C++ and other programming languages, but its easy for a newbie to grasp as well).
Don't expect to make something like Far Cry. Perhaps Gamestudio has the power to do that, perhaps not, but even if it does, professional games of that sort took teams of programmers and months, probably years, to develop.
But if you keep up this attitude you have, all I can say is, don't let the door hit ya on the way out.
