Hello,

In Aum 56 the bump map technique by matt is explained. This is awesome and I got it to work. I have my normal map on my model but how and where do I apply the specular map? The example mentions to apply it through the alpha channel. Do I do this by creating an alpha channel in the color map? I appreciate any help you all can provide.

Are you sure it's Aum56? Looks more like Aum57 to me.
That piece of code is a bit outdated now; the predefined shaders (the ones that come with GameStudio) include fresh versions for bump mapping, etc.

Hey George,

Thanks for getting back to me. It could be AUM57 I'm not super sure. I know it was in the 50s I know it's outdated code.... my project is a weird mix of A6 standrads with the new A7 stuff. I don't think it's meshing too well. I did set the material on my object. What I've noticed is if I try to give a bump map to a map entity the texture renders as white at run time. Why does this happen? If I set an "effect" on a bsp based level object it appears fine. Is there any reason for this? I apologize if I'm unclear.

The problem could be your A6 / A7 mixture indeed. The new A7 versions include shaders that can be applied to regular level geometry as well.

Im new to shaders myself, but one thing Ive learned...
BEWARE ALPHA CHANNELS!!!
You may have an un-intended alpha channel on one of yor skins that is
showing through.
