i agree, reinstalling DirectX and installing the newest nVIDIA drivers.

Also, HL2 aswell as many other games on the source engine and/or the Unreal engine are developed to run on as much confiurations as possible and (as phemox mentioned) have countless fallbacks. Only because they RUN, doesnt mean that they run PROPERLY.

Acknex doesn't have any of those fallbacks that I would know of.

Besides, I already said that the A6.60 engine works just fine for me ( I also have the commercial edition) and I have the exact same graphics card.

Also, try checking the website of the manufacturer of the OLD video card.
There you may have to run a separate driver "uninstaller" to get them completely out.
See if they have any tools for this they suggust using between installs of thier
own cards, and try the un-installer on your machine.

He got back with me and said that he reinstalled the latest and the old ones that he had before we discovered the problem, to no avail. (also on this pc he doesn't have anti virus)

@MS: He tried reinstalling DirectX and he has the latest drivers, we tried with the earlier versions and the latest, both failed. It is nice to know that it doesn't have to do with the card or the commercial edition. Also the game ran Perfectly, no problems with shaders (or missing shaders), no slowdowns, no collision issues, no physics problems, etc. Nothing wrong.

@EvilSOB: It was an nvidia 6100, the drivers were uninstalled when the new drivers were installed.

Maybe, he should test if he can install and run the free lite-C version? If that works, its maybe related to something in your game that only affects the GF 9800 for some reason.

To test that theory. Michael_Schwarz, download and run the PreVa demo.

Located here: http://www.itbgames.com/preva/

If the game runs, it has nothing to do with either of our games. PreVa failed on his card too. I'd prefer to stay away from giving out copies of Kino One atm, but since PreVa failed too, it's a valid test.

The problem was found and fixed.

When he reinstalled DirectX it worked, when he talked to me I was under the impression that he had already tried it. Thankfully this could be fixed.

Thanks for trying Michael, and thanks to everyone else who helped provide solutions.

I'm still curious why it was only 3DGS games that crashed with it....hmm. Must have had something to do with what Michael said:

Perhaps something to add to the to-do list?

Acknex in fact DOES have fallbacks. But I'm pretty sure they are not trying to work around all of the driver bugs smile
