OK, ogg files are a lot smaller and can decrease transfer data through the internet or save space on distributed disks, but do they increase the frame rate when playing?

I'm not sure, however I will mention that OGG files are the free to use alternative to MP3. If you use MP3 in a commercial project, you must pay the man.

Og files are great but the number 1 concideration vs MP3 is licensing. If you use MP3s in a product you charge for you fork over sinful ammounts of change. OG files are free. Free to use in any way shape or form. The licensing for MP3 is held by a company... or university or something in Germany I believe. And it's ugly. Numbers like$50k USD are starting points.
Quote: ogg files are a lot smaller and can decrease transfer data through the internet or save space on distributed disks,
You7ve pretty much stated most of the main reasons there. I am currently playing with adding sound to a game as well. It seems that .ogg files cannot be used with ent_playsound, so you'll still be stuck with your hefty .wavs here anyway. I've found that media_play causes a slight pause when executed.
Based on my experience so far, I'd say it would be easiest to use media_play with .ogg files for your background music and .wav with ent_playsound for your sound effects.
