my power supply is dead.

i can't wait for a replacement so i am looking for a new one which has about 500W, is quiet and has removable cables.

Enermax MODU82+ 525W

does anyone know if this one is any good (for its price) or if there is another recommendable one?

The modular cables make it a good solution and the price at around 100€ is pretty fair, but are you sure you're not going to need more than 525Watt?

The actual amount of Watt this power supply can provide is a bit less than 500Watt, it has an efficiency of about 85%.

Cons are that it hasn't got a whole lot of molex connections and that it doesn't pack enough power for the really high-end crossfire or SLI combos.

What kind of system do you have?

i am not into high end 250W graphics cards and SLI and computers that suck a kilowatt of power. smile

i have a intel quad core with 8gb ram but my graphics card is a pretty slow and low power 8600gt. i don't need anything better at the moment.

what kind of graphics cards are possible with 500W? like i said i am not interested in high end graphics cards but probably i will upgrade to something better in a year or so.

500w isnt bad if you dont have 10 hdd's or a massive video card(s). I have a 585watt and at once I was running 1 IDE hdd 1DVD burner, 1DVD/CD combo 2 Sata Drives, a dual core intel processor, and Dual Sli 8500's but they were oc'd a little and had giant fans on them, and it ran fine. Just remember to read reviews and make sure that the processor really lives up to 500w. as far as a card, like i said, i have a 585watt and right now i have just 1 9600GTX and it runs fine and probably would on a 500 watt as well.

i don't find any 9600gtx. do you mean 9800gtx? what is its power consumption under max load?

and what was the power consumption of your 8500 sli setup?

Well you really don't need a power supply with that much punch then. If you do not plan any huge updates in terms of power consuming GPUs you can go all down to the 385W version of that power supply. Currently the Enermax PSUs of the Pro82+ series are my favorites because they have good quality, high efficency and most important run really really silent. Alternatives would be supplies from be quiet! or Seasonic which would be my 2nd choice...

You don't need like a 500 watts power supply because even powerful hardware doesn't use up that much. For power consumption numbers of an overclocked high-end quad core system look e.g. here:
http://www.computerbase.de/artikel/hardw...istungsaufnahme

With that said I'd say under load you're going to use like less than 250 watts which is why you're totally fine with a quality power supply even somewhere in the 3xx watts area (which also in fact can deliver the number of watts they are advertised with)...

Enjoy your meal

yes, i used a power supply calculator and it also gave me this number. so there still should be some room for a more powerful graphics card in the future. i probably won't go for a graphics card with much more than 100W.

probably i will get this one then: Enermax MODU82+ 425W

My psu died on thursday with a big peng, i i also need a new one.
It should be 400W or something near. Problem is it has to have a 8pin 12V plug for the mainboard+cpu. Most psus i found only have a 4pin plug.
Oh and it should be ofcourse quit 20db or something. And i only have 50Euros.

Any tips?

this one is cheap: Corsair CX 400W

darn, actually i also don't really want to spend more than 50€ but there is no cheap one with modular cables and i don't like the clutter in my rather empty case.
