The warez versions are ridden with bugs. There's a part in the manual about it. When someone shows up for the first time and has an ancient Pro version, it's pretty obvious. But the thing is, the majority of them will enjoy it and buy a real version when they realize the warez one doesn't work. Those who don't enjoy it just quit, and it doesn't matter. That's why I STILL say make a real Pro demo that just doesn't allow a publishing license. They'd make more sales anyway. It's sort of like the "War on Drugs" here in America. The problem only exists because of the laws/rules. The warez scene is the same.
The overzealous detective work doesn't help though. They can't be prosecuted unless they redistribute or publish from a proven illegal version. Laws on technology are hard to enforce anyway. So a little lenience on your product can go a LONG way. Would you really be happy if you sent someone to jail though? Just for testing some software they thought they might buy? Think about it...
