Yes that proofs under the current time and age (we are still in state of a credit crisis), people didnt spend as much money on games as opposed to a year ago.. also, in that year they didnt release any major titles (atleast didnt spend enough marketing on it).
This should be a worry to you, rather then an opportunity.
If people spend less money on games (on a AAA titles coming from SQENIX), why would they buy a totally unknown RPG from an even less famous publisher (that is, if you have the ubi deal)?
I'd seriously reconsider making such big statements, and trying to compete to the big guys... To be honest, as an indie you'll make more fame with your game (world of goo as good example, and yet again, read AUM86 it doesnt make you millions).
I'm not saying your game is gonna suck, but it definatly needs something new (and not only gameplay wise, but maybe even some experimental art style never seen) to cut it.
