Unreal Tournament Level Contest Summer 2010

I think we some ready made levels for our programmers as playground and for another contest I want to start once this one is finished at the end of July 2010.

THE GOAL
You have to create an UT2004 like medium sized level for Gamestudio A7 for a theme you like. (old castle, space ship, abandoned futuristic factory,...)

Unreal Tournament has elements like Jump Pads, Teleporters, Lifts, Lava, Slime, Water, Killing Zones, etc.

Please use those elements in your level (not all in one level)

THE CONTENT
You have to create the level, the textures, static meshes and sounds by your own and agree to give it to this community for free use once you send in your entry.
[EDIT]
Your entry has to contain all assets needed to build this level. This includes the .wmp file - this way it is possible to add actions to lifts, doors and traps.

THE VOTING
starts as soon as this contest is closed for new entries which is at 31st of July 2010. The voting ends at the end of August 2010. There is a public voting - which means YOU can vote for your favorite level which will be available for download from the AUM section.

THE PRICE UPDATED
If you want add something to the price list, just say it in this thread and become a part of the PRICE JURY
1st $100 Shop Coupon from Conitec + 125 EUR including a 50 EUR donation from Superku
2nd $100 Shop Coupon from Conitec + 85 EUR including a 25 EUR donation from Quadraxas and 10 EUR from Joozey
3rd 60 EUR including a 10 EUR donation from Joozey

THE PRICE JURY
slacer ( 175 EUR )
Superku ( 50 EUR )
Joozey ( 20 EUR )

Just let me know if you want to add something into the PRICE POOL, I will update this posting.

THE IDEA BEHIND THIS CONTEST
I want to have more free assets for gamestudio and to make it easy for beginners to concentrate on coding if they don't know how to create nice levels/models. If each contest entry has its own theme, we can expect to see great playgrounds for AI, path finding, multiplayer CTF/DM, and single player FPS games.

I hope to see lots of entries and a great competition.

If something is unclear - just post a question in this thread and I will update the initial posting to make it clear.

Michael

[Edit]
LEVEL GUIDELINES
Sory for editing this section again, but my suggested size was too small for block based level design.

I want to use the marine.mdl from the shadertest project as reference to be used for doorways, stairs, etc.

If I were better at leveling I'd love to do this.

Doesn't have to be block-based though, does it?

You should define some scaling factors.
Like: normal person (1.8m) is 70 quants high.

Else the levels are not easily interchangable
if everyone uses a different scale.

[corrected the height in quants]
If you load the marine.mdl from the shadertest project which comes with A7 into WED the model is about 240 quants heigh.

A standard large Cube from WED would be 256 quants heigh - which could be 2m.

If you agree with this, I go and add this to the first post.

the warlock is about 67 quants high.
I think thats a better scale
(fits to the original quake model scale,
and most gamestudio maps I have seen.)
with: 1quant = 1 inch = 2,54cm
so 2m = 79 quants.

16 quants for 2m is very small, and can give problems
when editing small objects and blocks.

Anyhow, its good to define one base-model to
test the scale directly in the map.

Maybe you can also create a simple reference-level
that contains interactive objects (jumppads, pickups, spawnpoints, ect)
and the relevant action-names for the standard objects.

If all level are done according to this standard, they
can be easily loaded/exchanged in games basing on them.

My mistake blush

[Updated the main posting to avoid confusion]

About the action names.
Simply name your modelfile jumppad, pickup, spawnpoint in order to use the auto action assign feature from WED.
Sure, this would not work for doors, because your could contain different door types, but this should not be a big problem.

That is a very nice idea!
I won't contribute a level but some money (50€ or so) to the prize pool!

I think the scale is too small, I find it easier to create levels (/details) and especially texture the level (the common 256x256 texture size is 2 medium cubes high, no scaling necessary) for first person view games when the player is 1,5 medium cubes high. But you decide.

A reference-model would be good.

Thank you for your help. I changed the main post again and embedded a ref image.

The unscaled marine.mdl would be a good reference model which comes with A7.

Please send me a pm if I should add your name to the price jury section and if your money should be added to the first price.
