Here's my top 5 list of fictional tv/movie/video game events that just drive me nutty:

Movies, TV or games really aren't about realism, but instead they are entertainment. It's why a Hollywood car crash explosion tends to look like it was hit with a rocket, instead of the dull but realistic 'catch a flame' that could happen in real life.

Quote:
1. Seeing a woman take on a guy twice her size, and win.

Physical size really means nothing in reality either. Don't forget movies often times want you to think 'hey, wow, she actually won', when the situation looked pretty bad for the hero. tongue

That's how movies work.

Quote:
2. Sex scenes. They're just inappropriate and unnecessary.

When it comes to realism or appropriateness, I rather watch a somewhat random sex scene in a movie, than someone taking a leak just because it's more realistic.

Often times sex scenes do have a function though. It for example clarifies the relation between characters on the emotional level. wink Wouldn't you agree that someone that later on in the story turns out to be a traitor, but earlier on had passionate sex with the hero, would evoke a much stronger response by the viewer??

I sooooooo wanted to say this one, everytime a movie does it my friends all stare because they think im going to start to bitch grin

Oh, I almost forgot:

6. Overly complicated and nifty GUIs with motion detection and touch screens. They put stuff like this in all flavors of "CSI" (not sure if people outside of America get this) and sci-fi movies all the time, and it's just ridiculous. Wouldn't your arms get a little tired after flinging them around all over the place for hours? Whatever happened to KEYBOARDS? tongue

and sometimes it's even worse, the touchscreen gui only has some random geometrical shapes, they look pretty useless.

tire noises during car chases....

Everybody knows them, everybody expects them, but they are plain nonsense.

standard Character casts:

-guy (22 to 35 yeards old), having unsolved problems with his father. The name is preferably Jack, James, Rick, Nick, or John.
-woman, (younger than man) she is assigned to the "project / trip" against her will,
dislikes the main character at first, but falls in love with him
at the end.
She is the one that will allways! survive in the end.
(she will allways wear makeup, even in the most unlikely situations)

-black guy, who is preferably eithr a scientist or the direct superior.

-bad guy. (in the past he had at least a black mustage),
nowerdays he is an internationally operating crimeloard or
high status businessman/official.
the bad guys ALLWAYS have money. You will never see a
really poor / uneducated bad guy.

-------------------

these character casts are used as standard cast-sheet
for the storybookwriters, according to the writers guild union.

4. Heavy debris falling from said asteroid on said asteroid. If an asteroid moves forward, debris won't come back. Can't be some sort of magnetism either, asteroids don't have a molten core.

Joozey, now that is not true...
The debris has the same relative speed, and will thus
not fall to the "back".
A 250km diameter asterioid has some gravitation also.

Also a comets "trail / Aurora" is not dragged behind the
comet, but is always pointing away from the sun.
It can even point toward the flying direction!
(comes from particels ripped out by sun radiation)

Nah, not enough gravitation to pull back debris that size, breaking off. Not the stuff that's falling down in Armageddon. The debris will slow down faster as well because it's smaller than the big asteroid.

if there is no athmosphere, it cant slow down.
Principle of Galileo:
A feather falls as fast as a hammer in vacuum.

If the characters can walk on the asterioid, the stuff
can also fall down.
Its more a problem of asuming too
much gravity. But if that assumption is there, the stuff
will also fall back down.
