You can have the best engine, if you don't have great ideas and concept, and 3D skills ,and a good game logic programmer you won't make anything ! This is not the engine that will make the models, textures , animations and level design for you
Regardless, better engine will help you make a better game .
Don't really know if UDK (or the up coming Cry Engine Free version) are better than other solutions from an indies point of view in terms of the ease of use during the cycle of making a real game. Time will tell.
