Gid day all,

I hope this is in the right forum? Please move if there is a better place for this discsussion.

I have between $2000-2500 to up date my computor. I am seeking helpfull info on what could be the best processor (core 2 dual or i7), gaphic card (or should I run two linked graphic cards), etc. for running Gamestudio? Or should I get me mate to build a high-end gaming computor and use that?

I am currently using Blender for my mesh development (and I do some short story 3D movie animation as well), GIMP for texturing and A7 Gamestudio/ Lite-C for game design/ development. I am currently working on flight sim games and LAN turn based board games.

Thank you for your comments

a really good dual core is better than a quad, because GS doesn´t support multi-threading at all wink

best choice is a AMD Phenom II X4 (quad-core) or a Intel Core i3/i5 dual/quad-core combined with a ATI HD5770 or the like. The new NVidia GTX480/470 are quite weak in DX9/DX10 applications. The most important thing for a fast pc is a fast HDD and the main memory for blender (4-6GB DDR3)

two linked grafic cards needless, use one powerful card instead.

That's true for GS, but he stated he's doing some short movie rendering as well, for which he can definatly use the processing power.

And yes, a very good single Graphics card will give better results then 2 linked one's.

well, if i link two GTX 285 in SLI they will be better than anysingle one you can show me xD

oh, and the GTX480 should be used, if you often fell very cold, because this graka has an idle-temperatur of 100°C xD

I would also advice against a dual-linked Graphics card. MPQ is right.

Get a good (no need for total high-end) Quadcore (i7) and maybe an Intel SSD drive (Operating system and programs) and an additional hard-drive (for data/movies/projects/games of course and lots of RAM. An SSD will make your system feel much faster and more responsive, but you'll have to be a bit careful what you install on which drive. You probably won't notice it when 3DGS runs off the SSD, but you'll notice it with blender/photoshop.

I'd advice you get a decent ATI graphics card, like the HD5770 or HD5850. Be sure to get a quality power supply, not a no-name product. They break often and don't deliver what they promise.

When the map compiler calculating lighting it uses all cores of my Q9400, quad-core is better than dual.

If space allow it is best to buy 2 big LCD monitors for development.

I develop on a computer that I believe represents the majority of people who download and play my games. That way I know when the frame rate becomes unacceptable or the graphic card and memory requirements are too high.

I can gain some sense of this target group from Google Analytics.

Thank you all for your comments. Sorry for the delay in responding, I have been out bush digging for gem stones.

With this info I will get my mate to start building me a computor.
