For "brush-based" geometry, I actually use WED, or sometimes QuArK and export as .map. For "model-based" geometry, it depends on my mood and what kind of shape's I'm going to need. Generally, it's either Lightwave or Hexagon. I am eagerly awaiting a 'more stable' Blender 2.5...and a 'gui-key-emulation' thingie for either Lightwave or XSI.
