Hi! I've only just found out about 3D Gamestudio as me and a friend are planning on making a space-exploration game (kind of like EVE online).

EVerything looks great so far (especially on the lite-c side of things), but I've encountered a few problems...

1. When designing planets in 3DS Max, I use the layers feature to apply bump textures, which don't seem to be showing when I import them to MED... is there a fix for this? Or do any 3DS Max users know of a way to export the whole texture/material (including the bump texture and others) as an image file/wad file which I can load in to MED? If none of these options work, can anyone recommend a good 3D modelling program which I can use to make planets with textures which works in Gamestudio?

2. If I can overcome the above problem, how would I create an atmosphere effect over the sphere/planet object? I'm guessing it would be a particle effect.

Sorry about the long questions grin.

Regards,
Matt.

Hello Matt.
Well i dont know if you and your friend power is enough to do something like EVE.
Even me and other of my friends tried and its alot of work.. and do you know the end? the project never ended...

Anyway i have some good resources of my own projects.
The atmosphere can be done using shader, see on the top left link of this page a section called WIKI, and then go to shaders and you will find it.

About the layers on the 3d max, i high recommend you to assign the difuse map as the difuse map and the other channels as secondary SKINS, or by exporting to a file and then importing to the MED model, at SKIN EDITOR...

i can design some Nebulae SkyCubes (Sky maps) for your game, for a little money income.

Hi MMike, thanks for the reply!

Haha, yeah, EVE is a bit too advanced for two people, what were basically making is a 3D space-battle game.

Regarding exporting to a file, how would I do that laugh? And thanks for the offer! If we need some good maps I'll get back to you!

Regards,
Matt.
