What program do you believe is the best program to use for making a 3dgamestudio level? I'm sure most of you guys don't actually use WED other then to just import stuff from your other programs. Just a few key points to keep in mind: price, ease of use, and compatibility with 3dgs.
[edit]Oh and I almost forgot... licensing is another important issue.[/edit]

Hiya. For "brush-based" geometry, I actually use WED, or sometimes QuArK and export as .map. For "model-based" geometry, it depends on my mood and what kind of shape's I'm going to need. Generally, it's either Lightwave or Hexagon. I am eagerly awaiting a 'more stable' Blender 2.5...and a 'gui-key-emulation' thingie for either Lightwave or XSI.

The best ever is! The Program you can work with! 3DS MAx is to expensive for hobbie devs. Blender is a good choice for Hobbiest And sometimes the Radiant, because it can export to *.obj.

I believe 3DsMax is one of the best tools to use for creating geometry. But blender should do. Did you ever try something else like Modo as an example? It is simply better for modelling than Max. And it costs only a fraction of it.

I have not, but the modifiers in max were very helpful and easy of use. If modo can do better then I am curious.

It can do a lot better, uv-mapping, 3d-painting and sculpting are only a few of the features you have to check out. And it is not that overcrowded like the old tools are.
On the other hand it still has no character animation feature. But this will come for sure.
But here we are talking about a modelling tool (level design).
