I have successfully created a rolling sea by manipulating terrain vertices within lite-c

I now need to view that sea from underneath but of course terrain is invisable from underneath. I am thinking of using a set of sprites that 'hug' the terrain vertices. Before I start with that challenging code, does anyone have any ideas of a better way to do it?
