Looking good. What are the benefits of a noise shader over the tried and true non-shader version?

There's nothing distracting about the effect...it's a standard feature in these types of games nowadays. However, I would definitely allow the user to disable if they don't want it. I've found that it can be a framerate hit at higher res and higher refresh...not to mention the extra vid mem hit.

There he is
(note to loco:i have some better settings for noise )
here are some new shots.I dont think i will upload more after this,as it will ruin the demo soooo, expect a demo soon.(i know i have said this hundreds of times, but we are very near to release one with cutscenes included.)
I want it to be as much complete as possible. So you'd better wait a few weeks.

Finally....Thats all for now.
Thanks to everyone who contributed till now.
And some great thanks goes to ello for his awsome noise shader.
Benefits over non shader noise?Well the shader version gets overlayed on the screen so lights dont get dimmed at all.White is white and black is...well,black.

How did you do the flashlight cone? I would think that you just made a white cone as a model and set it to transparent. Did you use a spotlight?

At the moment, the flashlight effect is actually 2 cone models with different cone angles and different base alphas (transparent, flare, alpha around 5 (fluxuates a bit)), plus a d3d spotlight doing the actual lighting. It actually looks pretty good most of the time, of course, there are situations where the cones pass through a wall. In outdoor areas this can sometimes be viewed by camera. This could be solved with a trace and scaling, but don't think we will go there for the demo especially since there is a spotlight shader being worked on. Hopefully we will get the spotlight shader before demo release, but that is iffy at best. But by the time the actual game comes out we should have something better implemented for sure.

@ Orange Brat,
Yeah, the player will have options to turn off noise, etc. Probably have the option to have noise off, panel noise, or shader noise I imagine. Atleast the code for all 3 of those options is in the game right now.

I'm at work and was able to have a look at the screens with a normal monitor - the noise looks ok here. But it still looks (sorry) terrible on a TFT.
