i don't think it really is a hologram. i read an article somewhere which stated that real holograms (also with a glass screen) aren't possible with good frame rates yet. it would be awesome if holograms without screens were possible. i read another article a while ago which stated that it theoretically could be possible with very strong crossing lasers that create a glowing plasma or something (i don't remember the details). sounds kind of dangerous though. edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeqIZyUMDP4that technology doesn't seem to be very sophisticated yet.

Here you can see the semitransparent plane and the pixelation and that they are not standing on the ground: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_gBSWE_KYE&feature=related I would NEVER EVER pay any money to see virtual people singing to me in a concert! Stupid. But I saw it previously some years ago in Hamburg in the musical production "Dance of the Vampires" (dt:Tanz der Vampire). The screen spanned the whole stage and they used it to draw heavy weather effects like snow, rain and falling leaves - and when people walked behind it, it really looked like a tough outdoor scenery. That was cool! was searching for the LIKE button. forgot im not on facebook XD this is screen projection. its old tech. check gorillaz and madonna live from a few years ago. that was great^^

I would NEVER EVER pay any money to see virtual people singing to me in a concert! Stupid. Maybe that's where the Japanese culture is superior to our in term of acceptance and candidness. We all know the polls where Japan is one of the countries most likely to accept robots with artificial intelligences into their society. In a way this is a first step towards that. Whereas in other countries, new technology is often frowned upon for a long time until it finds acceptance in mainstream culture. Especially in countries like Germany, where a lot of people like to hold on to constants, a life that never changes. Just look at all the movies where robots are the bad guys and in the end try to take over the world, yet in Japan, there are lots of animes with robots, and waddaya know, they are often one of the good guys. Perhaps we should cut ourselfs off a slice from Japanese culture and start being happier (and less grumpy), have more acceptance (and less prejudice) and being more open to what the future holds in store for us so that one day you can enjoy having a kegger with your Robot pal in College.

@Michael: There´s a difference between a real robot and a virtual character . I would like to see a robot perform on stage, but not some projected fantasy object. Not that I agree with HeelX all over, it's also about the experience. This show is pretty scarce, only one or two characters. But if it became more of a movie, I would likely enjoy it much more.

I would NEVER EVER pay any money to see virtual people singing to me in a concert! Stupid. So, you would never purchase a DVD of a rock concert? You would never see something like Pink Floyd's The Wall? These are all "virtual". What you are paying for is the experience, the entertainment. It is not that much different than going to a movie, except there would be more crowd participation. And while people singing live (lip-syncing?) let's you actually see the people at work, there were people at work that created the experience of these virtual concerts. Someone had to create the models, capture the animation data, skin the model for animation, texture it, etc. Don't they deserve a paycheck?

@RealSerious3D: Those are lit pingpong balls on wires. That's not really advanced just a nice trick, but not very usable.
