Hi, ok lets make the preliminary schedule for the 256K Contest.
The Great 256Kilobyte Gamestudio Game Contest:
Why is it limited to 256Kb?
Its to give a creative limit and fair playground for everyone within these limits.
You can also practise to make use of efficient programming,
or show of your low-poly Design skills.
Any! Gamestudio Version (old and free ones too) can be used,
as long as you publish a running executable.
Accepting entries starting January 15 (you can post it here before of course)
Final submissions February 13th (Sunday Evening)
Requirements:
-you can use any Gamestudio/Lite-C version (not warez of course)
-It should be a game. If its not you might still win the special award
-try to use English as language, so everyone can enjoy it
the entry must contain two parts:
1- the general dlls (acknex.dll, dxd9...dll) , and possibly “public” dlls like PhysX if required, this folder/zip is not size limited
2- the game files:
This summs up all other files of your game. The main exe, scripts/code, artwork, other ressources, and custom/plugin dlls.
(if an entry might be A4/5, we need to clarify this, to keep fair)
This game.zip archive MUST be equal or less than 256Kilobytes.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
REMEMBER: we count 1024 Bytes * 256 = 262.144 Bytes !
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The game.zip MUST be in .zip format. (eg: The standard Windows “open compressed folders” must be able to open it)
To make an efficient compression, you should use something like 7Zip (exporting .zip) to create the zip, as it yield better compression ratios.
(Dont use rar, gz, or tar etc. Its not about the best packing format, and everyone must be able to open it )
Best is to put everything into a zip:
-framework.zip (dlls) - required
-game.zip (<256kb) - required
-readme.txt
-screenshots..
Its likely this zip well be a bit less than 2MB in the end.
Do not make the game load resources externally. Everything must be included in the game.zip folder.
If it has a multiplayer component, it should not load art/sounds/gamelogic/long texts, only use “normal” Client/Server communication to run the game.
Here a little example of such an enrty:
http://www.wasteland.at/AlienRunner256k.zipYou must have the legal rights to use the assets.
So use your own, purchased or free assets.
Its not required to share the sourcecode or assets.
Best is to state this a the readme.txt

Votes will be given on:
-Fun / Gameplay
-Innovation / Idea
-Technology / Skill
-Visual and/or Acoustic Style
There will be a 50% community vote and 50% judging panel score, to find the best entries.
Prices:
Joozey was so kind to offer pricemoney from a pool from a former contest.
We have to define the details. But the contest will be about fun and interesting ideas in the first place.
And even if you don't score first, you will be a winner.
I think we should split up the price-pool into:
50% first
25% second
15% third
the remaining 10% should be reserved for a “special award”, if one of the others entries does not score highest, but did something outstanding or unique.
