Yep, with my new idea I am going to put a fair bit of polish, but graphically it won't be Silas. Because it's the idea in this case that really matters. And I find that a webplayer is the quickest, and easiest way for people anywhere to get playing your game now. All they do is click play and there already going. My business model for my next game is to sell it similar like Minecraft did in an alpha state through the web.

Silas was the traditional, spend many years then cross your fingers that it gets on Steam before or after release. In all of this time you make no cash flow and the ball still isn't rolling until release. Very risky. So I want to make another big project, but have it so people can start playing as I develop it, and the web is the quickest way to do so.

Of course Onlive and the such will be the best thing going for instant play in the future, but once again, it sticks to a formula that people only play and developers can only submit the finished product. This is hard for an indie which needs cashflow to keep going.

William, you could possibly try to make some money by Kongregate or Wooglie then I think as well laugh

(or do something like mochiAds in your alpha, and offer it for free, kinda like what Angry Birds does on the Android).

I am mostly thinking of offering a couple modes for free then $9.99 for the full-game and future updates. Thanks for the links though, they look like great portals. laugh

Some advantages to have some Web Player :

- Share quickly any very early gameplay or level demo without needing to download or install something :
Just click on the link laugh

- Use it to share and show your 3D art models with lightening letting the user use camera to check all details !
(usefull if you work with a team also laugh )

- For people newbbie to IT , just a link to click on (once you have the plugin on)

- For a demo you don't need to have all the work to make the install package ect ... just publish a Web version, for
people can to play and give you feedback

Well, i just sayed it's usefull for showing your models, a demo to people !
For a real big game, installation is better indeed !
You don't have to download 1Go each time to play laugh !

You actually download all data to your browser cache so this is not anymore quick, if it was a zip only additional step would be unzipping. You download same amount of data and still install nothing. If it's the first time webplayer has the additional downloading and installing webplayer step.

For people new to IT thing, that people probably wont be able to install a plugin if they can't even unzip yet, or be able to play your game.

We have no plans for a browser plugin, for the same reasons given here.

A web player was once planned some years ago, but then 3rd party players came out, like OSA Kit. OSA Kit worked quite ok as we tested it, so we didn't see a demand anymore for developing an own web player.

Contrary to rumors, a web player is not "quickly" and can not make games appear "without needing to download". It's advantage is just that your game runs in the browser, not in its own window, and installation happens behind your back. If you need that, just use an existing web player.
