This is a huge growing market. Angry Birds sold 10 million units, Cut the Rope had one million downloads within 10 days, Infinity Blade made 1.6 Million Dollars in 5 days). These phone users are hungry for games and they take whatever they get currently.

And the upcoming phones like the LG Optimus 2X will have a double core CPU and a powerful graphic chip (Nvidia Tegra 2).

That is what i want to say. Future is in mobile market and now most large companies like Unreal Engine, Unity3d etc already integrated support for IOS publishing. but unfortunately 3dgs lake support for this huge market.

Yeah sure, mobile market is the future where everyone gets rich because he is able to use a keyboard >_>
Cut the Rope, Angry Birds, Doodle Jump and whatever are rare games! They are special because they sell, and everyone knows them. But they are so many superb titles that get released every day and no one pays them the attention that they deserve.
The App Store is the place where great projects go to die, and not where you become super rich. If your game isn't featured in the first page or isn't in the top 50, you have lost.

Please stop this fucking "Hail App Store" bullshit, read the reviews of people there, look whats in the top 50 and be part of it (that means, don't just read the news about it when a games makes someone rich).
You want an easy market? Go and make a PC game but stay away from the phones, trust me.

Guys?

So you are going to tell me that we should go for mobile because people buy consoles instead of PCs? Senseless much?

The story sounds pretty much made up.
I smell a good chance that mum did way more than just the graphics.

Then again looking back at what I programmed with 14.... why not. I just didn't have the physics knowledge back then.

-----------------

Apart from that in this forum we should not just feature the rare gems, but also the undiscovered gems - meaning brilliant projects which for some unknown reason are not well known and failed to sell well.

Why not. I saw this 2d engine he used and it is really easy to use and has physics already built in.
I also think his mom did a good part of the work and I was shocked to see their photo. The boy looks like 12 and the mom looks like a man.

I am not sure about the iPhone market, I am on Android. But I can tell you for sure that there are still big chances just because good games are missing. I mean, look at the "best" games there:

First there are tons of tower defense clones, most of them ugly and with repeating and boring gameplay.

Then there are totally nonsense games where you have to cut moving fruits with your fingers (e.g. Fruit Ninja). I dont get the hype around it, but this is silly.

There are ugly and simple made jump and run games like Doodle Jump.

There are some match-three-games, most are simple and not very nice looking.

There are some NES-Emulators.

Something like Angry birds is the best you can get currently and this alone tells all about this market.

So if you dont come with a stickman graphic and when you add some nice gameplay you will rule the market for sure.

I know that popcap is porting Plants vs. Zombies to Android. And I can assure you that they will make Millions with it even with zero marketing budget, just because there is no alternative to it.

There is simply too much crap in these market stores and because of that you have to create something better than crap.

But I found that really impressive games are coming to Android now. Look at this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeyQ-PC_cwc
This game has been made with the Unreal engine. I even did not know that UDK also works on Android now but it looks that way. And users who bought it wrote that it runs fluid on my phone (HTC Desire HD):
