The socket_ functions are really useful, but also quite limited. It'd be nice to be able to connect to multiple applications through different ports. The "handles" thing comes in because obviously we'd need to specify which port we're sending to after making multiple connections and trying to send data.

Also, it'd be great to be able to host a socket_ server through GS.
