3D coat 3.5 is out for a long time, but latest updates have braught
great features like :
- Very fast Boolean operation :
You can cut voxels to make hard surface, by substracting objest: cubes, planes, ergion etc ...
- clay Tool : Similar to incoming Zbrush 4 R2 Dynamesh tool :
You throw/cut clay to make the model, you can smooth at any time, the advantage is that the mesh polygons are the same in size, you don't have the mesh deformation made by standard Push/pool tools !
And using this tool is even more fast and smooth, natural to
make quickly the base model you want laugh
(it's in beta tools but works already great)

So 3D Coat is going pretty well in good direction also, and this tool have all 3D Workflow all in one with the best retopology tools.
Even if some modelers have good tools also, what is not the case of Zbrush that have old and bad retopology tools, but i htink Pixologic will change that in next version wink

i realize i could google, but im in a hurry, how much is 3d coat now? sounds nice. havent used it in forever.

The full version is 350$ , it is so complete :

It has all you need to make 3D models :
Sculpt,Best retopology tools, easy and poserfull UV tools,
Normal map generation, painting tools (normal, specular, diffuse).
you can make tileable textures with normal and specular directly also laugh

And big difference you work with voxels so no surface problems at all.
And going in surface Mode allow you to draw increadibly fast even on high res versions.

Even hard surface with very fast boolean between objects and surface mode to mahe very hard edges also.
you can easily make swords, ships ,firing weapons , vehicles ,
3D assets etc ... etc ...

3.5.25 is out !

The new tool : Clay for Voxels, is amazing it is like Dynamesh on Zbrush in fact.
But here the remeshing is done as you sculpt, you don't need to drag the mouse each time like in Zbrush.

Now that unlimited freedom of sculpting laugh

is it still way slower in terms of the amount of polygons it can push out? that was always my issue frown

In fact for me it's fast.
And in Zbrush also there is a limit , even if it is lot more far.
In 3D Coat, you need to bring the general forms before increasing resolution and putting details.

The last version seems more faster , and really faster in terms of Booleans between objects.

One important thing is when you are in high resolution , to use the surface tool that is indeed as fast as Zbrush tools caus it works on surface not on voxel volumes laugh

So the workflow can be that :
- Voxel mode , and Clay Tool : Build the basic shape
- Increase resolution : continue with Voxel tools
Fix and finish all definitive shapes.
At this stage you can mix Voxel tools and Surface tools
- Increase resolution and use surface tool only (or Voxel
tools with tiny brushes), to work on surfaces and bring
high details

The Surface tools are what allows you to work faster, and you can mix Voxel and surface before going too further in resolution.

For Zbrush, indeed it is really fast, and Dynamesh tool allow
to bring corrections and make an uniform triangulation like Clay Tool in 3D Coat.

After testing again the Clip tools and Dynamesh, hard surfaces
on Zbrush is easy and fast, and Dynamesh brings also big creativity. And in terms of speed Zbrush is unbeatun for me laugh

What Zbrush lacks is big retopology tools. That's one main point that makes me stay with 3D Coat.
So my workflow is lot more now :
-Zbrush Sculping
-3D coat Retopology
-3D coat normal map making
-3D Coat Texture painting

Well ... after that it's a matter of taste and project type !
