I've already added configurable Xbox 360 controller support for my game and I am currently working on Wiimote support, too. As I plan to support them officially (esp. the Microsoft controller and probably PS3, too) and maybe even with an image of the gamepad, I want to ask if anyone knows what legal things I have to consider (except writing them an e-mail)?. Does anyone have experience with this topic (in a commercially sold game)?
Thanks!

Slightly off-topic, but unless you plan on releasing your game directly to the Wii, there's not much of a reason to add support for the Wiimote.

I don't think there'd be a conflict wirh law just cause you want ro support the input devices, unless you use the original data types

A far as i know, there's no license or anything needed to use 6-Axxis

Why would that be useless? It only takes a few seconds to connect your Wiimote to the PC, you don't need a (fake) sensorbar to play the game, you just hold it like a NES controller.

@fogman: Well that doesn't sound too good, although, as old_bill has already said, it's not quite clear to me that the support of their controller is prohibited even when you state Nintendo's copyright.

Only a minority of people have equipped their PCs with Bluetooth sensors, and even fewer people have ever taken the time to buy and synchronize a Wiimote just for their PC.

And? If only 100 people used this feature and enjoyed playing the game this way, it would be still worth it.

Btw. you can synchronize the Wiimote to four systems (f.i. 2 PCs and 2 Wiis) simultaneously, not just one.

I've bought both because of my wish to play games with it! grin

If that's reason enough for you then I can't argue with that. laugh

I was not aware of this. How is that possible?
