use this:

loadingpan.scale_x=screen_size.x/bmap_width(loadingpan.bmap);
loadingpan.scale_y=screen_size.y/bmap_height(loadingpan.bmap);

i know that, this will scale the bmap to the actual screensize

but the problem is, when u have a 1280*1024 bmap
and you use 16:9 screen the bmap looks overstreched

Read out http://www.conitec.net/beta/video_aspect.htm
or do the math by yourself (screen_size.x/screen_size.y)

no science involved

there is a solution but have some problems.
if you use layerd entity(ent_createlayer) , no need to resize images .
problems:if you use camera.arc or shader on screen , objects will afected.

another idea:
if you use some image for menu,use a constant resolution like 1024*768 and in game use user choiced resolution.

but finally i have same problem to streaching image and quality.
any one know how other game and game engine solve this problem?
