As it was said before, this forum is about the 3D GameStudio Physics Engine.

Newton has its own forum and is best prepared to answer your questions.

Many 3dgs owners use the Newton physics -- its appropriate to discuss it here. Why not add a Newton thread here. The point of the forum is to make great games and apps with 3dgs.

as long as it says newton in the title, whats the problem?
You cant browse over it and let people help each other use newton with gamestudio? whats the harm?

No harm, but as a 3DGS PE user, newton traffic on the A6 PE forums increases the noise-to-signal ratio.

The forum provide two other places more appropriate to what Newton is relative to 3DGS

It is a 3DGS engine plugin:
Quote:

Higher Languages (4 viewing)
Creating WED, MED, or engine plugins

It is a competitor to 3DGS' PE (even if it is free):
Quote:

General Tools (8 viewing)
Competitor products & game development tools

This is not a jab at newton; I think all of us would agree that newton is a great physics solution. It's just not the 3DGS solution and thus doesn't qualify as "Using GameStudio's physics engine"

Methinks the solution here is for a administrator to tell people where to post their questions about Newton.

You have to understand that people who use 3DGS + Newton would like to get their questions answered just as much as the next guy, thus, telling them to place their questions in a forum such as General Tools is not really fair to them, because the questions would seldomly get answered, because no one reads it often.

Anyway, I don't believe any people who don't own 3DGS are posting questions about Netwon here. Do you see what I mean? In some cases, people might have quit using 3DGS if it wasn't for Newton, so I don't see Newton as a real competitor to 3DGS, it's actually a complimentary tool and may actually help 3DGS sales to some degree.

An adminstator just needs to let Newton users know where to post their questions in a place they will get answered. Or if the adminstrators feel that this is a legimate place to ask Newton question, state it in the Physics rules. I don't however believe enough people use Newton to warrant a Newton specific Forum.

I am tired of reading, "Don't place Newton here" without a workable solution being offered. After all, if you were new to 3DGS, was working with Newton, looked at the list of forum titles, and had a question on Newton Physics, and saw a forum called Physics, I would imagine that would be the first place you would think to ask the question.

So please some adminstrator, resolve this problem once and for all.

I can tell you that one! Without NGD, I wouldn't have even continued using 3DGS, probably. And there wouldn't even be a possibility of having work-in-progress The Racing World.

I agree. Thats all it is.
It would also be like asking everyone to stop posting questions about Milkshape because 3DGS already has MED. Maybe not quite to that degree but you get my meaning.
Considering all of the issues still present with A6, I don't think it would be in the best interest for Conitec or the GS community to turn their backs on anyone asking questions about it.

not sure if it matters, but the way people treat a certain alternative tool can actually have a real affect on the tool.
I convinced Newton to port the engin to A6, thigs were well until a certain member of this physics forum who doesn't like the newton engine gave him such a hard time, he discontinued it. Newton no longer creates for A6 specifically because a user's personal preference for a tool...thats a shame. Newton engine might get updated by ventilator if we are lucky.... just wanted to share a little reality...

Would it help to create a new forum section

3rd party
- WED / MED / Engine plug-ins
- physic - NEWTON, etc.
- AI - Mythic AI, Razor AI, etc
- network - Nocturn, etc.
- Editing/ Import/Export (C4D, Maya, Milkshape,...)
- General tools (this is already there) - everything what does not fit above
