Hello jcl,

In this post I was asking something about c_trace, but since no one answered yet I decided to ask here:

I want to know if it's possible to use c_trace on only one entity.
It would also be nice to know if theres a way to check if a certain point is inside the collision-mesh of an entity.

regards,
Kartoffel smile

It probably seems dumb at first but this feature can be really helpful.
It can make some things much easier and (should) improve the performance a lot.

It is certainly not dumb, but makes sense to c_trace only a certain entity. But can't you use the existing features for this - for instance, setting all entities to group 1 and the entity to be detected to group 2?

For checking if a position is inside a certain mesh, I think the easiest way is a c_trace from the camera to the position and back from the position to the camera. If the mesh is hit in the first case but not in the second, then the position is inside the mesh - at least that's the theory.

Thank you for the answer.

This workaround might work but it would force me to iterate through all entities and set their group number every time I want to do this smirk

Of course it wouldn't. Once your level starts iterate through all your entities and set their group to 1. Prior to tracing a single entity you set the group of that entity to 2, do the trace, and set it back to 1. No iteration required for a single trace. If you don't call c_ignore multiple times with different groups you have to use this instruction only once at level start as well, otherwise it is required before every trace.

Always learn from history, to be sure you make the same mistakes again...
