Strangely enough, my Gamecube didn't freeze ever. Seems to me like you just didn't place it according to the instructions
Besides, the Gamecube is really powerful. And the mainreason for it are the games, which are really great. Oh, yeah, it's true, you can't play the thousand GTA on it. Who cares? Get it for PC, it's better there anyway. Or just don't buy it. New features are rare, or not?. New town. Nice. Two new vehicles. Not bad. Oh, and the missions are also different. Slightly, at least. ... Do I really have to buy that one? Nope.
X-Boxs title? Halo. Oh, right.
Grumpy Gamer once called it "Hyplo". That was not only funny but true... Oh, and it's also out for PC. Isnt it better there, too? Don't remember that one, though. What other (good) games are out for it? And I mean REALLY good titles. Keep also in mind, "good" does not mean "good commercial" (go sony

) or "much blood".
Gamecube has no HDD? Correct. That's one point for the XBox - but, well, it's more expensive, so it should have ANY advantages. Another great thing about the HDD is: You can download Patches for buggy games. I believe there was at least once the need for a patch... Unreal Championship? Whatever it was called.
Theres only one console which can play the Zelda-titles. Which are awesome

Wind Waker is fantastic. Then there's Metroid Prime. And it's successor, Metroid Prime 2. Both are superb. I loved them. And then there are new, innovative titles - only on gamecube, keep that in mind. Pikmin, for example. Anyone played Wario Ware? Funny game, and made by nintendo... and it doesn't even stop there. Mario sunshine, paper mario... It's hard to find bad games made by nintendo
Of course, that's just the way I see it. It's similar to Torque vs Gamestudio

- Every console has it's advantages. For me, Nintendo's consoles are the best, (some) reasons mentioned above. Everyone has to decides that himself. Nintendo made many mistakes, sure, but it's strongest fault is marketing. It's terrible. I can't stand it's commercials... And sadly enough, that's a very important thing nowadays... and in my opinion, thats the reason why many didn't buy a gamecube.
