Last time i checked, about the time it first released for free with udk-style licensing, documentation was balls. It has possibly improved over time. Same points for UDK also goes for CE3, like the need of multiple team members and such.

Cry engine has also this hidden license.

And they decide if your project deserves to get out in the wild.

Yes, the (commercial) licence of CryEngine3 is heavy, but most users are hobby developers and for this kind of users, the engine is free to use.

I would rather choose UDK because UnrealScript is more C-like, only its defaultproperties part is unhandy a bit (and I don't like its compilation process, to close the 3rd party scritping tool (I used Context), open the editor etc.), while CE3 utilizes Lua (but it might be worthy to learn it...)
I think they are fine for hobby development only if you make a shooter or similar game, and have good 3d-artistic tools and skills.

in this Thread

a User sell the A8 pro for 150 €...... 150 EURO for a A8 PRO license !

In the past he had already gotten the money (and more).

But nowadays when a cheap A8 pro license is thrown to us, all run away and say "dont hit me with that Thing".

God! Whats happen to our world ? ......his Answer is "Unity and Zorro".

Thanks God.

I wonder whether I can sell my commercial licence or not... or only when new WED comes? grin (it was announced about 2 years ago)

moreover I found a good unity forum thread about A8 pro and Unity (fogman took part in the conversation). serious Unity users seem to be really upset because maintancence is done badly, there are lots of unfixed bugs, but always new feautures are coming to keep up the marketing.

As a die-hard anti-Unity Acknex user who switched to Unity, I've gotta say that Unity doesn't suck.

I love native support for .blend files, everything "just works" on whatever OS I build it for, an abundance of features in the free version (which I'm still using, because I'm poor), GUI.matrix (how I make KarBOOM's GUI scale to fit any resolution or aspect ratio), and realtime interaction with all objects in the editor.

I don't like the limitations of their particle system and the abundance of fairly useless non-deterministic physics functions.

But I strongly recommend Unity.

No No No Unity free is not a real option.

No RenderToTexture, no LOD, no Postprocessing and unknown Culling, Audio and Video Capabillities.

May they have a nice Editor. But the free version is too limited.

I did read about an cheap plugin for RTT. But this reminds me to GS years ago as RTT was a pro feature and I bought a dll from an user.
After a short time he abandoned his project.

In that list, RtT is the only serious issue there as far as I'm concerned (post-processing needn't be mentioned separately from RtT). But you'd be surprised by how good you can get things to look without RtT.

And then if you're serious about your project you could always buy Pro. If you can afford it. I can't.

Good idea about selling A8 Pro, though… That's some food for thought!

I decided to test Neoaxis2 and CryEngine3 in these dark winter days, maybe later Unity4. thus Rayne should start with version number 5 immediately to get in the ring grin (maybe this stupid joke was written earlier by someone somewhere)
the Neoaxis 2 demo runs smoothly beside good quality, for the 1st look it's faster and better than what I can achieve in 3DGS (maybe my fault).
