I am having a problem setting up a new VPS with MT4. The Zorro EA is not appearing in the Expert list. The MT4 Build is 604. It works on another installation I have which is Build 509. The manual talks about it working on 509 and not been tested on later builds. Maybe this is my problem. Thoughts?

I still have a working Build 509 version, just not on the new VPS.

Try opening the .mq4 file in the editor and then reCompile. This should force it to register with MT4 and show up in the list.

Build 604 from last week is rumored to be _not_ compatible to its predecessors. We had not yet the opportunity to test it. So far all our brokers apparently refuse to update to 604, for good reasons.

But let me know which broker you're using and we'll check if that MT4 version is compatible with the Zorro EA.

After getting Windows to search for built in EAs, I found deep in the User folder structure the shadow folder structure. So, sorry for the post. The solution was in the manual and I just had to look harder than what I did before.

Hmmm just for your information, I accidentally allowed my Build 509 to update. It updated to 600 and Zorro continues to work fine. The new install I mention required a download which ended up being Build 604. After figuring out the shadow folders I got the Zorro EA to appear in the EA list. But Zorro won't connect to it. Could be a Build 604 issue or could be gremlins in my system. I don't need emergency support or anything. I'll just play with it and see. It is with FXCM. It appears an update goes to Build 600 and a fresh install goes to Build 604.

I am going to start trading with Pepperstone as well. I hear good things about them. I am not sure what build they are on. But for now, it could be a Build 604 issue.

Which broker did you get the 604 version from? We'd like to check if there is an issue specific to this version.

I've checked their version 604 and from what I can see, the MQL4 language has indeed changed. Some data structures are now different, but this will only be relevant when you do complex things with strings and arrays, or use external DLLs. 90% of existing EAs will probably still work.

The Zorro EA is obviously one of them, at least I can connect Zorro to 604 without problem, and trading also works.

If anyone has a persistent problem with 604 that can't be solved with the suggestions at http://manual.zorro-trader.com/mt4plugin.htm, please post here and I'll look into it.

Ok - I am back trying to sort this out. I am trying to set up the Amazon VPS (I currently have it working on a FXCM supported VPS.) Like I said above, I got the Zorro to appear in the Experts list and it is not grey. When I add it to a chart, I get the smiley at the top right corner but I don't get 'Controlled by Zorro' in the top left corner.

In the Experts tab of MT4, the follow comments are made:

When I look in that shadow folder in the last line, ZorroMT4.ex4 is there. It is also in the non-shadow folder.

I tried compiling the EA. On the Experts list I right clicked the Zorro EA and selected Modify. The editor came up. I Clicked compile and it compiled correctly. But when I go to the normal and shadow folders, I see that the modified / created dates for the dll and ex4 files do not change.

Finally, this is the Zorro message window output:

Thoughts?

On the MT4 platform that's not working, check your Tools-> Options-> Expert Advisors and make sure you have these settings:

[X] Enable Expert Advisors...
[X] Allow live trading
[X] Allow DLL imports
[X] Allow external experts imports

(on mine, all the rest are unchecked)
