Unity "Develop once - suck everywhere" isn´t better (in my oppinion). It´s just different. If I could, I would sell my Unity license as well.
I won´t leave 3dgs completely, luckily there´s a free version.
And of course I won´t leave Game Development. I´m working full time at Deck13 Hamburg as Game Programmer.
