Thank you fogman,
yes... I am really happy with the way it goes now. It grows because I don't care for critics any more. Less levels but made with more care...It was helpful for me to post no more demos.. as people kept filing ridiculous complaints like "Hey, I want a different keyboard control" or "Hey, I want a gun that shoots yellow tulips" or my all-time favourite: "Hey add more details".
All this distracted my from doing what I really wanted, which I do now.
And congrats to your new computer :-)))

Rincewind, I love your "fast and dirty" way of level building!
Don't get me wrong, I actually mean this absolutely positive!
Although it doesn't relate to, it reminds me to my teacher of the art lesson who said: Draw fast, don't try to make it precisely. You will do the same mistakes, precisely or fast, because there are mistakes that you _have_ to make - to get rid of them!
Your way of level building seems a good way for beginners and hobbiest (I know, it's because of a deeper wisdom, that you do it this way!)!
How can you be so fast?
Can you give some hints from your experiences?

Dear Pappemheimer,
I don't get you wrong.. I know exactly what you mean. Thanks for the wise words. I agree that it is good for beginners and hobbyists, because that's what I am:-)
About giving some hints: This is exactly what I am doing at the moment. I am working on an Unreal Tournament-like game. At the same time, I write down, everyhting I do when building this level in PDF file. I want to create a detailed step-by-step tutorial that is easy to understand for beginners. A soon as it is finished I will post the document and the level here.
Some hints in advance: If you don't really know how to start with a first level.. think about your favourite games... collect some screenshots from your favourite games or images from 3d galleries like 3DTotal or others. Arrange the screenshots you like on blank in the way you would like to build your level.. This should give you a first idea of how to start...
Try to work with shadows.. place lights in way so that structures you build create interesting shadows to get some atmosphere.
Facade textures are hard to find in the INternet and it is cumbersome task to make them from scratch, so look for building models e.g. on Turbosquid. Look at the model pictures. Here, you can cut out elements for your own building textures. If you have any games at home, play them and make screenshot of the textures. You can use elements of these textures as a basis to make your own.
MOre tipps will come with the tutorial.. hope someone will find it helpful.

Dear Frazzle, thanks, you're very kind. I actually won't post any more demos.. just the finished game, which will be for free. See my post above: Quote:

You see, people kept demanding things from me that I couldn't fulfill. And the same people from this forum that bashed away at me for the demos, saying it was bad stuff contacted me on ICQ, asking be to build models, levels and even complete games for them. When I said that I couldn't do that, they called me names and stuff. That really frustrated me. Don't get me wrong I really like this forum but I finally want to do what I always wanted to and that's why I don't post any more demos.
