that is very cool and will be great for VR. It also works great with a touchscreen so it could be as an feature in some series/movies to add the ability to look around a bit (I understand that 360 degrees will be pain in the ass for the director there, but maybe 45 degrees?). well, sadly 3d videos aren't that great in VR. The problem is that you loose all 3D information. So, although you can look around 360° it's still just a flat canvas. And even if you're able to record and recreate the depth, moving your head will break the illusion. I'm sure that some day (stereoscopic) VR videos will work properly but until then only live rendered content is capable of giving you that 'immersion' which everyone is talking about

Good point. Though I think the 360 degree feature is a gimmick anyway (but a cool one ), I think ~90 degrees would be enough. Since with 360 your going to miss details since you are not watching the direction your supposed to watch. But e.g. 90 degrees would be enough for head turns and enough for the filmmaker to put e.g. some easter eggs and other extra's/details in the outer area's. Than 3d would be easier to cause the other camera not visible.

The problem with 3D is that the position of your eye has to match the position of the camera when recording. Your eyes can be in a LOT of spots depending on how you turn your head. Head-tracking increases this range even more. It's pretty much impossible to record something like that. You'd have to record the movie with hundreds of cameras at the same time, if not more. Another approach would be recording with just a few cameras and using the differences between the images to recreate a 3D scene. Storing and playback of the video is still going to be tricky but I could imagine that this approach works.

I didn't noticed that VR did not include 3d? well VR does include (stereoscopic) 3D. That's one of VR's main features. What I'm talking about is that videos (which are only 2D) don't look very compelling in VR since you don't have any depth. All you can do is project them onto something in 3D space (like a sphere for 360°-videos or a plane for normal videos).

Yup. It basically is like sitting in a cinema is now. You are not in it, you watch it as a bystander. That doesn't meant he cinema itself isn't 3D, just the movie isn't.
