Until the beginning of October, my broker was FXCM (UK). Afterward, I switched to FXCM (EU) (using the FXCM plugin). Now I have to switch again, as their client base has been sold to AvaTrade and TradeNation.
I am now trying my luck with a different broker that offers the MetaTrader platform. I have opened a demo account and installed the Zorro plugin according to the manual. Screenshot
"Access denied" means your PC won't let you access this file. Either you have no access right, or more likely, it was locked by Windows. The simplest way to unlock a locked file is closing all programs and restarting the PC. If you have no access right, make sure to be logged in as a user with all access rights to that folder.
I tried the following: I created a copy of "xxx.sys" in the "temp" folder and deleted the original. Naturally, the "xxx.sys" file now has all the necessary permissions (SYSTEM, Administrator/Gery). I doubted from the start whether this would even help. I’m still getting the same error message: "Access denied" to the "xxx.sys" file.
To be clear: I am not the programmer behind the DLL or "Zorro.exe," nor am I a system administrator who assigns permissions! I am just an ordinary user. So, who exactly is responsible for assigning the permissions for "xxx.sys"? As you surely know, other applications also use this "temp" folder. Does the regular user have to personally ensure that the correct access rights are in place?
Consider this: The DLL has access rights to the 'temp' directory—otherwise, a 'xxx.sys' file wouldn't be there in the first place. The DLL creates an 'xx.sys' file but is then unable to read it—isn't that strange??
I would appreciate a response.
Scrennshot, permissions after copie xxx.sys and permissions "temp"
I share your doubt that copying a file in some temp directory will help with a denied access. Only copy files when you have a real reason.
You can find suggestions in the manual for installation or file access issues. If you can't fix it yourself, you can hire our installation service for installing the MT4 bridge. But normally this should not be necessary. If you have a locked file, just restart the PC and delete it.
Locked files can have several reasons. Any Windows user can occasionally encounter this problem. That's why the manual mentions it. It is unrelated to Zorro or MT4.
Please check your accounts.csv file and make sure you have the real field set to 0 for a demo account or set for live account. Also make sure you are using the latest ZorroMT5 EA and libraries. If you are using MT5 plugin field is blank for MT4 I believe you need ZorroMT4.dll in that field
Name Server AccountId User Pass Assets CCY Real NFA Plugin GP-MT5 MT5 0 xxx xxx AssetsForex USD 0 0
Thanks. I have the Zorro 3.01 Free Edition. Unfortunately, this versions doesn't read the `accounts.csv` file.
Within the Zorro application, you can only select "Demo" or "Real" and enter a login (account number) and password—nothing more.
I’ve tried it on TWO OTHER COMPUTERS (running Windows 7, 10, and 11), and it’s always the same issue: "Access denied" [at] `C:\Users\...` The exact same problem on three different computers??
The MT4 platform is ready to go. But what good is that if Zorro—or whatever is causing this—simply won't connect? Damn it.
Thanks again.

If it happens on multiple computers, then your account type or number is wrong. Read the remarks in the manual about connecting to MT4. For connecting to an account of 'real' type you need Zorro S, even when it appears as a demo account.
I know that people have sometimes problems with installing MT4, since it involves file copying and determining the account number and type. But everyone so far has managed it in the end.

I’ve probably read through the manual xx times by now.
Thanks to a tip from user Scatters, I might now be among the 100% who have managed to get it working.
I tried it using Zorro-S—which is located in a different directory—and surprise, surprise: it works!
To recap: 1. I only opened a demo account with the broker. 2. With Zorro-S set to "REAL" account, it works (see screenshot on the left). 3. It doesn’t work with Zorro-Free—neither with the "REAL" setting nor with "Demo" (see screenshots 2 and 3). There’s really nothing else you can configure in the Free version.
