to be honest everything makes a good game, everybody enjoys different parts of games so its very hard to measure what actually makes a good game.
Yes, you are right, but you could refrase the question to; "what makes a game very bad?" and everyone will come with similar answers, but some pay more attention to this, others less to that, and others just generalize their opinion.. I guess the real difference is the package our opinions come with ...

what makes a good game:
1) Zombies 2) Guns to kill zombies 3) Pirates/bandits/thieves 3) Being a thief and stealing guns to kill zombies.
Thank you for your attention
then you're gonna love Zombie Smashers X2
there's all the above plus ninzas, nazis, mummies and robots! and you get to kill them all! IMO, best amateur game ever made, you gotta look it up

Yeah, that's great game, but the best amateur game ever is Trigger Happy 2 from BlackeyeSoftware , their proto-type single player TH 2 demo ROCKSSSS!! ... (their site seems down tho .., maybe google for it). Another excellent 'amateur' game is Punchstudios Facewound!!! ( www.facewound.com ) , and YES it features zombies, loads of 'em , it's not yet finished though... Cheers

Let me spell it out...

Don't make a game like everybody else is doing, but make something unique and different!
and who knows, if we do this, then we might find true creativity within us!

The only problem with this, is that the big ass companies have already used up a lot of ideas.
I am twisting some ideas a bit with my games, making it more of a journey than just killing

Ok I think the question itself creates enough confusion and seems to me to be a very open question, but.... if you are looking it on a bigger scale, the answer is simple. What makes a good game? A good game! Ok so you all think im an arse, but think about it this way. You go to your store and buy some game your all excited about, you take it home and play it. How long before you, as a designer, look at it and say...."hmmmm i don't like how they have done that", or maybe, "wow I love what they have done there". Suddenly the game you were drewling over is now not so great, but is it still a good game? If you look at any individual part you will not find an answer, you must look at the bigger picture. Produce something that ticks most of the boxes listed here and you will be on the right road, what ever game your making. Consistancy is the key. Set a minimum standard and keep to it. The rest is in the hands of the gods

I find drugs of varous kinds taken at the same time can make any game good.
.... Oh, you mean how do you MAKE a good game..... I'm sure drugs are still the answer.
