the newton sdk (not the 3dgs plugin) has a help file and tutorials which can also be helpful for the 3dgs plugin even if there are a lot of differences.

you don't have to show the splash screen. you can comment it out in newton.wdl. you just have to give proper credits! i think the old plugin still checks if the splash screen tga is in the directory though.
