No A6 does not have problems with shaders on level blocks, if I knew how to post screen shots I would, but anyways if you use the a6 shader collection from AU then you can have normal mapping on level blocks, but that FX file is for models.

Yes A6 does have problems with normal mapping on level blocks..the problems are:

1)Speed: any shaders applied to level blocks create a lot of slowdown.

2)Lighting quality: because the vertices of non-coplanar faces are welded, this creates bad lighting errors. This is because shaders interpolate data between adjacent vertices. There may some way to fix this, but I dont what it is, and anyway the speed issues make it pointless.

This is why level blocks are BAD for shaders, and why any modern egnine uses different kinds of geometry, where the user has more control over it.

First of all I will admit that shaders on geometery are slow but I see no problem with the lighting when I use normal mapping.

Note: The textures arn't mine.

Actually I run into a wierd parallax shader thing of all the parallax shaders being way darker..............

They have more customized geometry that has better tangent calculations, etc..Most games dont use BSP anymore...

But many still do, and are still very efficient. UT2004 does, as does Doom3 (? I think).

Unreal engine has NEVER used BSP.. it was always portal-based..The latest Unreal engine probably is all octree..

Doom 3 is optimized for shaders.. A6 BSP isnt.
