A mipmap consists of linked bitmaps within a textures, whose picture contents is displayed smaller and smaller from bitmap to bitmap. A mipmap is an optimization method in order to save processing eprformance. As as not all texture details of far away objects can be seen in the same way as with nearby objects, the displayed bitmap of the mitmap depends on the distance.
