Thank you DaBroozar, that did work!

Comparing the files I found out what the problem was. This will be useful info for anyone out there with a foreign language version of Windows:

Make sure the text file is encoded as ASCII! (mine was encoded as UTF-8. This looks the same in your editor, but it will not compile)

This is one of the little, but annoying, things, that each one should know!

Can you add this to the Wiki, please?!

Hey, I've been following along with this thread in my attempts to implement my first .fx file. I have successfully included the file and executed the script in my level.

(a bit happy because it's the first thing that's worked in a while)

Russel, you can download FX Composer for free at:
http://developer.nvidia.com/object/fx_composer_home.html
It's fun to play around with.

Thank you guys for this!!

DaBroOzar, can you tell me how you made the cone? I tried going into PSP 7.0 (I downloaded the .tga patch) and making an alpha .tga file by painting lighter shades of grey on the black alpha channel. When I save it and open it up, it shows up as a blank white image.

I tried opening up a model in MED, and using your spotlight.tga as the first skin layer, then using your black.bmp as the second layer then exporting (is that what you used for the cone? It looked like it but I couldn't tell) and when I loaded it in WED all I got was a grey model

I've been doing a couple of tutorials on making an alpha .tga image and none of them seem to work.

i have psp7 as well, so this is the method i use:

a) paint a b&w pic.
b) goto masks>new>from a picture (the last entry)
c) form the dialogue box, choose "from brightness of source" (or whatever it´s called in English, i just have the german version)
d) ok
e) then go to masks>save as alpha channel (last entry)
f) save the whole picture as *.TGA

the second layer has to be a tga file as well, so bmp will not work.
