Hello,

I am very interested in buying 3DGS for my projects, I was just wondering if anyone could give anymore information on the 2D engine however? Is there a decent one? Is Game Studio limited to 3D games or can I make completely sprite based 2D work?

Thanks in advance and apologies if I have posted in the wrong section (I did try searching first too).

Mart.

2D games are 100% possible. I've been making one myself:

All objects are nothing more than panels, which use 2D graphics. The scene looks 3D as I have the mathematical know-how on making it 2D, but the scene is indeed nothing more than 2D objects.

A 2D game takes more programming know-how than 3D though, but such a game is fully possible to make.

More details on it (with more screenshots).

Thanks for the informative reply, I think I will be buying BV instead though as it suits my 3d game needs better than 3dgs appears too (and I'm worried about where 3dgs is now while bv atleast is up and coming and constantly developed on and upgraded).

3DGS is constantly being updated as well. Although it's been 15 months since an official release, Conitec had to change core components of the engine to allow for faster updates. 3DGS is meant for 3D games, although you can still do 2D without any major problems. Good luck though.

I'd love to have a complete 2D (or 2,5 D) template.

Do you mean a 2D game template? I could make one, but I'm currently more focused on finishing my main 2D game as I'm nearly (70%) done with it. The concept for 2D isn't all that complicated, except when it comes to collision. My 2D game uses a very simple collision system. For the backgrounds, that's the easy part as I've done it for many years in my animated GIFs (such as my avatar).

Yes, I meant some costumizabile 2,5 ( an half way between 2 and 3d) or side scrolling shooter.

Thanks but I don't really agree that 15 months since the last official release counts as being constantly upgraded

But thanks you guys for the help! The community is good here.
