Hm, It could make a shadowskin for a model-terrain too with some modifications. The user would need to mix the shadow with the texture of the model then in a gfx program (photoshop, gimp), but this is an easy step. Its originally designed for Wasteland, but I need some more features in XSpire  , But the IceX editor and others do have a shadow baker too,
