Teddy/Chameleon are pretty easy to use, but usually result in a fairly distinct style that tends to resemble stuffed animals.

I tend to work with Milkshape3D for simple 3D modeling, using what I think is called a block modeling approach (? - I'm more of a programmer than artist/modeler). Anyway, I throw down pretty crude boxes and other primatives, and then tweak/add verticies into shape. Probably not very feasible for sophisticated models, but it seems to work well with low-low poly stuff.
