Let me get right down to business:

-I opened a .mdl model that has animations.
-i went to export model (frame name plus the number) to 3DS and saved it to a directory.
-I went into blender, import>3d studio (.3ds), and pointed to the file.
-said i had a script error and to check the console.
-The last line in the console was the most critical I think:

Code:

ValueError: object "walk_00" not found

This seems to be something simple I am overlooking. All I'm trying to do is import a frame of a model, I'll worry about importing the whole thing once I figure out what I'm doing wrong first.

Well, just in case the reason I didn't get any responses is that I didn't post my version, I'll state I am using the demo version of 3dgstudio.

quick sum of the issue:

WED > 3ds file > blender > blender can see the file in its GUI when I select, but not after I click import.

blender often states strange errors, this is not a med problem. i get this error as well. there does not seem to be a solution, just a workaround, try some other formats. amybe, export to 3ds, import in milkshape (or so), save as obj and load it in blender (i never experienced probs with the obj format).
also try md2 export, blender should take it.

yea its not just with models exported from med either. Happens with pretty much any .3ds file ive found.Think its a problem with blenders 3ds import.

What i did for a work around is downloaded wings3d which is free also. Export as 3ds import into wings3d... then export as obj and import that into blender.

Works except the orientation of the model gets switched and my model ends up on his back....

yeah, or export as *.ndo file from wings, the orientation is the same.
